WispFile is out of beta. Nothing changes about how it works: files still go straight from browser to browser, encrypted, and are never stored.
A download that stops because the sender went away keeps what arrived: open the link again when they are back and it carries on from there.
A new icon in your browser tab.
Inboxes, team workspaces, swarm mode and a developer SDK
Developers can add WispFile to their own apps: one JavaScript module, API keys on your account page, and documentation at wispfile.com/developers.
Swarm mode: sending to many people? Tick “Let receivers share with each other” and receivers pass the files on, so you upload them far fewer times.
Free links are now direct only: your files never pass through our servers.
Teams share one history: everyone sees the links the team has shared.
Team admins can add and remove people and take down any of the team’s links, and every change is kept in an activity log.
Links shared by anyone on a team carry the team’s name and colour.
Ask for files: make an inbox from your account and share its link. Anyone can send you files through it, straight to your browser and encrypted, while you have it open.
Public beta
Files now save straight to disk as they arrive, so large downloads no longer need to fit in memory.
A dropped connection no longer ends a download: it waits and continues from where it stopped.
Send whole folders. Chrome and Edge recreate them where you choose; other browsers get one zip.
Protect a link with a password. The password is never sent to WispFile.
Links can expire after one download, and a finished download says so.
Several people can download from one link at the same time.
Ask to be emailed when a sender comes back online.
Share a link by QR code or email.
Phones keep the screen on while sending or receiving.
Report a link you did not expect, and Stop sharing now ends a link for good.
Accounts, by email link or Google, with a history of what you have shared.
Pro: name your links, put your name and colour on the receive page, and hear when someone downloads.
First transfers
Files move browser to browser, encrypted end to end, with no upload step.
Links show the receiver what is on offer and whether the sender is online.
